Field Trips
General Information
Field Trips are an important part of our annual agenda. We usually run a 2 to 4 day field trip in the Fall, typically some time in October. We also run field trips at other times of year for special events. The 2010 Field Trip is now over; it ran from Oct 1st to Oct 3rd, and visited the Burin Peninsula area, with emphasis on the Precambrian – Cambrian boundary sequence. The trip leaders were Paul Myrow (Colorado College) and Leon Normore (GSNL).
Previous field trips include the Baie Verte Peninsula (2009), the Bonavista area (2008), the Red Indian Lake area (2007), Cape St. Mary’s Peninsula (2006), Gander and vicinity (2005), western White Bay (2004), Gros Morne National Park (2003) and the Mistaken Point fossil sites (2002). Field trip guides may still be available for these and many other trips that we have run over many years, and some of them are available on the website under “Publications”.
We are currently soliciting ideas for a Fall Field Trip in 2011. If you are willing to lead a field trip to an area of interest, please contact the technical program chair (Andrew Kerr).
