Social Events

GAC Newfoundland and Labrador has an enthusiastic but at times erratic social calendar. Traditionally, we hold a lobster boil in May, around Mother’s Day. This event is usually the first feast of lobster for our members and is eagerly anticipated by everyone except the lobsters. Other events of note include pub night socials, wine-tasting events and day hikes. See the links below for information, and watch this website for more details as we add details of new events. If you have an idea for a social event or (better still) want to organize one, contact the social events chair (Jennifer Smith) at jennifersmith@gov.nl.ca

2010 Wine Tasting

A WINE-TASTING EVENT WITH A GEOLOGICAL EXCUSE!

GAC-NL invites you to a wine tasting event!

"Wines and the Geology of Canada (or at least some parts of it)"

Come enjoy an evening of sipping the wines of Canada and seeing not only where they come from, but what type of geology the grapes are grown on! Decide for yourself which substrate makes the best wine, and see if you can still tell the difference after a few glasses ! This year we may feature a skill-testing “taste-off” competition, with some prizes.

An extensive buffet of snacks will be available for browsing throughout the evening – a variety of gourmet cheeses, cooked meats, savoury items and other treats yet to be decided upon. Wine should never be consumed on an empty stomach !

The ticket price includes $10 taxi vouchers (available on request) that will ensure a safe trip home for all who might otherwise have to drive.

Tickets for this popular event (the sixth in our series) are limited in number and we strongly recommend that you obtain them early….do not risk the disappointment of a perpetually empty glass……..
